An earthquake (also known as a quake or tremor) is the shaking of the surface of the Earth resulting from a sudden release of energy inside the Earth. Due to the sudden situation, you will never know when an earthquake occurs, only when you were announced by the government. But what will you do after being informed? Definitely, prepare everything to keep your family safe. Here is what we recommend you do when an earthquake comes, and don’t forget to use the coupon we have prepared for you.
What Do You Need To Prepare?
Foods and Drinks
This is the most importants thing. If you forget to prepare food you might die because of starvation and thirst, before you can die due to the earthquake. At least three gallons of water can help you survive after three days. Bringing non-perishable food such as canned food, dry nuts or cereals because it won’t get spoiled if the evacuation lasts long. And don’t forget to bring a can opener and other disposable utensils or all the food will be useless when you can open it up.
In case during the hazzard, someone in your family gets injured. A med kit can help you to first-aid before making it to the health facilities. A basic medical kit requires these items:
- plasters in a variety of different sizes and shapes
- small, medium and large sterile gauze dressings
- at least 2 sterile eye dressings
- triangular bandages
- crêpe rolled bandages
- safety pins
- disposable sterile gloves
- alcohol-free cleansing wipes
- sticky tape
- thermometer (preferably digital)
- skin rash cream, such as hydrocortisone or calendula
- cream or spray to relieve insect bites and stings, soap
- antiseptic cream
- painkillers such as paracetamol (or infant paracetamol for children), aspirin (not to be given to children under 16), or ibuprofen
- antihistamine cream or tablets
- distilled water for cleaning wounds
- eye wash and eye bath
If it is difficult to prepare all of these you can buy a medical kit which has been provided with full supplies.
Backpack, flashlight, whistle and radio
You will need something to put all the prepared stuff, a backpack is appropriate and easy-to-carry during a disaster. Flashlight and whistle is used to draw people’s attention in case you get stuck or worse being buried under the building. Not to mention that earthquakes can paralyze the electricity system, a flashlight is a savior in this situation and a radio helps you not to lose any information from governments.
What Do You Need To Do?
Secure the house
Packing everything that heavy, or hanging on the wall to lower the chance of being hit by these when it falls off the wall. You have to make sure that your safe place won’t have any breakable items such as bottled foods, glass, and china or pieces from these can hurt you during the earthquake. Noticing the unrepair defective electrical wiring and leaky gas connections. These are potential fire risks.
Finding a place to hide
If you can not evacuate then you better find somewhere to hide.
The ideal place is under sturdy furniture such as a heavy desk or table which is against an inside wall and away from where glass could shatter around windows, mirrors, pictures, or where heavy bookcases or other heavy furniture could fall over.
If you are In the open, away from buildings, trees, telephone and electrical lines, overpasses, or elevated expressways.
